Alpha Delta Fraternity Celebrates Centennial!
The Year 1912: New Mexico and Arizona were admitted as states, the Titanic hit an iceberg, Teddy Roosevelt formed the Bullmoose Party … and the Alpha Delta Fraternity was founded!
Alpha Delts won’t want to miss this celebration as the Alpha Delta fraternity celebrates 100 years with its very special Founders Day Centennial Celebration to be held April 20-22, 2012.
All Alumni and Active Chapter members are invited to join the festivities beginning at 7:30PM on Friday, April 20 with a special Alumni & Active Chapter Reception at the Bradbury Thompson Center, offering hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. Saturday features golf at Cypress Ridge Golf Course ($33 per golfer, includes cart and green fees), campus and house tours.
Saturday evening’s Founder’s Day Chapter Meeting begins with a reception and dinner at 6PM at the Topeka Country Club. A special program follows commemorating 100 years of history featuring keynote speaker and noted Topeka attorney Art Glassman. There will also be a special showing of a “100 Years of Alpha Delta” video program featuring the history of the house and fraternity member interviews and commentary. This special commemorative video will be available for distribution to all those in attendance. More golf is planned for Sunday the 22nd at the Topeka Country Club at 9:30AM ($75 per golfer, includes cart and greens fees).
Founded in 1912, the Alpha Delta Fraternity is the oldest local fraternity west of the Mississippi. “We continue to be successful because we’ve focused since 1912 on building campus leaders” says Bruce Jones, Alpha Delta Alumni President, “and I am confident for what the next hundred years holds for this wonderful organization!”
The Alpha Delt’s still recite the names of its original twelve founders, from their first President, Guy S. Miller, to its last surviving member who left us in the 1980’s, J. Glenn Logan. Alpha Delta has been home to a number of notable Alumni including Washburn College Bible designer Bradbury Thompson (1911-1995), Menninger Foundation co-founder Dr. William Menninger (1899-1966), James W. Sloan, noted Topeka attorney and alumni board treasurer for over 50 years, Alan Rolley, former Chairman and CEO of Highland Park Bank, and Gregory Brenneman who has served as President and CEO of Quiznos, PwC Consulting, Burger King and Continental Airlines.
The Alumni Board has secured a block of rooms at the Capitol Plaza Hotel located at 1717 SW Topeka Boulevard (http://www.capitolplazahoteltopeka.com/). This hotel is less than a mile from the Washburn Campus and one of the finest hotels in Topeka with an excellent restaurant and bar. The special rate per room for April 20-22, 2012 is only $79.00 per night. Parking is complimentary.
